David and Barbara moved to Stoneyfield Antiques Elk Farm in Meaford, Ontario in 2005, permanently exchanging corporate life for country farm living.
In 2001 after visiting a country fall fair we fell in love with elk and started the process of changing our life direction. David grew up on a farm in England, so with his farm experience and both our experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry we felt that elk offered us an opportunity to combine our expertise. The main reason for farming elk is to harvest their antler every year for the production of CanEVA (Canadian Elk Velvet Antler), a natural nutritional supplement which helps in arthritic and muscular conditions in both people and pets. Meat is a bi-product of managing our herd.
For 30 years, David traveled the world developing and testing innovative pharmaceutical products and Barbara worked in the corporate, investor relationsŐ sector for small biotechnology companies. Together, they worked at a Canadian pharmaceutical company researching and developing hyaluronic acid (an important component of Elk Velvet Antler). Today, David applies the same strict pharmaceutical standards to the CanEVA product.
David also has a background in breeding show dogs, with prized Otterhounds winning best of breed at Crufts in England where he also owned a horse riding school. As a result, he is keenly aware of the need for and the benefits of natural remedies for animals.
In addition to CanEVA, we offer one of the healthiest red meats available. Elk venison is low in cholesterol and fat and naturally contains Omega 3 & 6 as well as iron. The cholesterol and fat content is similar to skinless chicken breast.
We also sell hard spiker antler from our one year old bulls and antler coronets or buttons for use by artisans in the creation of knife handles, lamps, belt buckles, etc.
Antiques have always interested both of us and we buy what we love. A mix of antique, vintage and rustic items for home and garden can be found in the store. Click on pictures at the top of the page to see some of the items currently available.
